QuickerTek's Whip PowerBook antenna is compatible with Buffalo Technology's 802.11g PC Card, the company has announced. QuickerTek is now offering both products in a bundle that they say can significantly boost wireless range in G3 and G4 PowerBooks. The Whip antenna plugs into a port on the Buffalo card, which is compatible with Mac OS X v.10.2.6 "Jaguar" and higher. The bundle sells for US$169.95. Wayport Inc. said McDonald's Corp. has selected the company as its exclusive nationwide public access Wi-Fi provider, which could lead to deployment of the world's largest Wi-Fi network. Dan Lowden, vice president of marketing at Austin-based Wayport, said his company expects to install Wi-Fi service in about 3,000 McDonald's restaurants this year and eventually plans to extend the service to "as many as possible" of the 13,000 McDonald's outlets in the U.S. during the course of the four-year contract.News

Amtrak to offer Wi-Fi in six Northeast stations
Amtrak and AT&T Wireless Services Inc. have inked a deal to put wireless Internet access in six of the railroad's stations along the Northeast Corridor.
